![]() ![]() Rick was called back to active duty to serve overseas during Desert Storm. Rick then returned to civilian life and accepted a call to be the pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. He was stationed in San Diego, California for 4 years and then moved to Orlando, Florida where he served as chaplain at the Naval Hospital for a year. Shortly after Rick and Susan were married, Rick began his active military service as a chaplain in the Navy. Rick and Susan were married Jat Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville, Illinois and went on to raise a family of 7 children. During a reserves training weekend, he met his wife, Susan Dodge in Billings, Montana where Susan was teaching at Trinity Lutheran school. In service to his Lord and his country, Rick proudly enlisted in the United States Navy as a chaplain. ![]() Following his ordination in 1978, Rick was installed as pastor at his first church, serving a dual parish at Trinity Lutheran Church, Plentywood, Montana and Fortuna, North Dakota. He entered the seminary in Springfield, Illinois, served his vicarage in the Canal Zone in Panama, and completed his seminary training at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. Most importantly, he had a passion and desire for everyone to hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.Īt the age of 14, Rick decided to become a pastor and he attended high school and junior college at Concordia, Milwaukee, going on to the senior college in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Rick had a love for learning and enjoyed sharing that knowledge with others. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Richard J. Sr. and Renate M. Richard John Boeck, Jr., age 70, of Chilton, WI, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Maat Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. John felt it was important to always keep his word and do the right thing. Many hours were spent taking pictures then developing the prints. He and Luanne took many back packing trips in Oregon and Washington. John was a Boy Scout leader during the years his sons were in Boy Scouts and enjoyed sharing his expertise of camping and hiking with the young men. ![]() He was a member of the Stevens Pass ski patrol and loved skiing until in his mid 80's. He enjoyed mountain climbing and climbed 7 mountains in the northwest including Mt. He sang in the choir and was very excited to be a part of choir when they sang at Lincoln Center in New York City. ![]() John was a vital part of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ballard, a neighborhood in Seattle. In 2020 they moved to Walla Walla, Washington. They lived there for 40 years before moving to Tacoma in 2018. They lived in Seattle in a house built in 1905. In 1977 he married Karen Luanne Emry at Ohme Gardens in Wenatchee. He worked for Honeywell for a number of years, then worked at Boeing as an engineer. He attended CalTech in California and was an active alumni. With his first wife Gail, they had four children, Steve, Chris, Karen and Katherine. He attended school at Shawnigan Lake school in British Columbia, and after graduation served in the Navy. John Thurston Billings was born February 12, 1930, in New York City, the son of Franklin and Marion Billings. ![]()
